Taylor Creek Reservoir

Taylor Creek Reservoir is just one example of Deseret Ranch's dedication to forming regional partnerships focused on providing water supply to the region. Taylor Creek Reservoir was constructed in the 1960s and floods up to 4,000 acres of Deseret land. The reservoir was made possible by the Ranch’s donation of land as a flood easement, and the express purpose of the project was for flood control and agricultural irrigation supply. We are currently using water from the Taylor Creek Reservoir system to irrigate a leased sod farming operation.

In recent years, demand projections for alternative water supplies in the Central Florida region have increased significantly. Deseret Ranches is working collaboratively with several regional water utilities to develop a plan to utilize surface water from the Taylor Creek Reservoir to resolve many of the region’s future water supply needs. This plan will likely increase the water storage capacity of the reservoir requiring additional land from Deseret and increasing the water supply available for crops, as well as for local communities. If successful, the project would be the largest alternative water supply project to date in the state of Florida. Deseret is proud to be a part of this historic private-public partnership in finding solutions for the Central Florida region.
